500 Lekë denomination issue of 1991, has been printed in the Bank of Albania Printing House. The security thread was put for the first time in the banknote; the notes are signed by the Governor of the Bank of Albania and the Director of Issuing and Administration of the Currency Department. This banknote was reprinted in 1996 with the same features as the one of 1991. It was issued in 1998. Both of these denominations are currently in circulation.
