500 Lekë denomination was printed for the first time in 1992, in China. The notes are signed by the Governor of the Bank of Albania and the Director of Issuing and Administration of the Currency Department.

The "De La Rue" Company reprinted the same denomination in 1994 with the same security features as in the old one, but the year and the signatures are different. The 500 denomination of 1994 was issued in 02.06.1994.

The same denomination was reprinted in 1996 (by "Tumba Bruk" Sweden Company) the security features are improved, but the year and the signatures are different. The 500 denomination of 1996 was issued in 11.07.1997.
