Prof. Dr. Halit XHAFA graduated in Finance and Accounting, Faculty of Economy at University of Tirana in 1973. He received the scientific degree of “Doctor” in 1986 and of “Professor” in 1994.
His professional career first relates to the banking system, where he worked for 8 years in the General Executive Board of the State Bank and later on in the Agricultural Bank in Durrës. His afterwards career relates to the academic activity in Faculty of Economy at the University of Tirana, where he first worked as a lecturer in 1980, and in 1992 as Head of the Chair of Finance, and later on as the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economy and Head of Finance and Accounting Department until 2003. Prof. Xhafa is head lecturer of Financial Management and International Financial Management at the Faculty of Economy (university system), and lecturer of Advanced Financial Management in MBA and MMK, of Public Institutions Financial Management in MPA and of International Financial Management in MSEE and MF.
Apart from the academic activity, Prof.Xhafa has over the years had a number of other professional engagements in boards and councils. He was Head of the Banking Supervision Directorate at the Ministry of Finance 1997), a member of the Albanian Privatization Board (1993-94), coordinator of TEMPUS project with the Siegen University in Germany and Portsmouth University in England (1993-1995), member of the Governing Council of the Savings Bank (1998-2000), Chairman of the Internal Audit State Commission (2005 and on), member of the Scientific Council of the University of Tirana (1993-1997), of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Economy at the University of Tirana from 1995 till present.
Prof. Xhafa has made a remarkable contribution through his work with students. He has constantly recommended students of Economic Faculty to the banking and financial system and to business areas, most of whom are currently leading the institutions they work at. In the SIFE world programme (students in free enterprise), the students’ team from the University of Tirana, where Mr. Xhafa had the role of the leader, was ranked fifth in the World Championship for 2005 in Toronto, Canada and was the European champion in 2006, in Paris.
He is the author and a co-author in a number of economic books and text-books for universities and high schools, in projects, working papers, articles in scientific magazines inside the country and abroad. His areas of interest focus on issues related to the finances of enterprises, to business financial management, to public institutions’ financial management and to the multinational companies financial management.
Presently he is a lecturer at the Faculty of Economy, University of Tirana.
He is fluent in English and Russian.
Prof. Dr. Halit Xhafa was a member of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania from 1993 to 1996. He was re-appointed Member of this Council on December 2006.
