The Bank of Albania hosted from 6 to 7 December 2007, its Seventh Annual Conference titled "Monetary Policy Strategies for Small Economies". The Conference was held at the Tirana International Hotel.
The Conference focused on the monetary policy strategies for small open economies which have to “live” in the shadow of Eurozone. For more than a decade, a notable change has taken place in the perception of what monetary policy strategies should achieve. Despite different environments, approaches and solutions, nowadays it is clear that central banks have one clear objective, i.e. the achievement and maintenance of price stability.

The conference attempted at addressing a broad range of issues related to financial stability against the backdrop of new financial trends in the region. It was organized in six panels, focusing on recent financial market developments, the role of commercial banks in financial stability, financial stability, surveillance and monetary policy issues. At the end, Governors' Roundtable was dedicated to regional cooperation in terms of financial stability.
This conference will attempt to raise a number of issues related to the monetary policies pursued and targeted by SEE countries, and in particular to those concerning Bank of Albania's policy.
Bank of Albania in cooperation with Economic Faculty of University of Tirana, organized in the city of Saranda the conference entitled "Albanian Economy: Performance and Policy Challenges". The focus of the conference were the economic developments in Albania, some problems regarding foreign sector in Albania and some special aspects of central baniking within our region. In this conference there were invited representatives from banking system, from academic institutions and from different financial institutions within the country and abroad.
Bank of Albania dedicated its third conference to the anniversary of its modern existence of ten years which as the previous ones was held in the Palace of Congresses in Tirana.
The Bank of Albania, being established 10 years ago according to the modern concept of central banking, has played an important role in the economic reform process and in the whole country economy during the first transition decade. This role has been strengthening with the strengthening of its legal and real independence as well as with the increase of knowledge and experience in economic and financial field. The Albanian transition problems, a number of which have been treated with great care and are overcome well by the Bank of Albania, have even created unique experience.
It is clear that the way to EU needs time. Nevertheless, it is useful for the economic development of the country and for the institutional reform success that everyone works having our long-term objective clear. This would facilitate the future outline and if the good will exists then it would accelerate the development.
The conference "Albania between domestic reforms and Europian integration" was jointly organized by the Albanian government and the Bank of Albania on the event of the 10-th anniversary of the Bank of Albania enrollment in the world financial institutions like the Wold Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
After more than 10 years from the time when Albania overthrew the totalitarian regime and took its course towards the market economy, making quick steps in the way of democratic and economic reforms, looked very appropriate for the experts and policymakers to gather and analyze the work and results achieved so far, what has
been done what is left to do as the future challenges.
From 2-3 of November 2000, the Bank of Albania and INSTAT organized in Tirana, the national conference "Statistical Information in Albania". With the participation of a wide audience, representatives of government institutions, private business community, NGO, research and development institutions, as well as guest from international institutions, such as IMF, European Commission, Board of Governors, Eurostat, etc, the conference aimed to estimate the statistics development during the years, to emphasize its role and importance for the decision making process of the economic policies, to call the attention of the government authorities, business community and public at large, on the necessity to support the extension of the statistical service.
