Decisions by the Supervisory Council, 4 September 2019

Publication date: 04.09.2019

On 6 September 2019, the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania reviewed and decided to:

  • Approve the Financial Stability Statement and Financial Stability Report for 2019 H1

The Financial Stability Report is an important periodic document prepared by the Bank of Albania whose main purpose is to identify and assess risks to the financial system and its infrastructure. The Financial Stability Statement, whose half-yearly release is a legal requirement set out in the Law “On the Bank of Albania”, prefaces the Report.

According to the Report, the financial system and the banking sector in Albania are assessed as stable. Developments in the surrounding economic environment have overall supported the activity in the Albanian financial system, although certain indicators related to global economy developments showed lower-than-expected values.

Banking sector’s financial indicators - including those pertaining to asset quality, exposure to market, liquidity, financial result and capitalisation risks - evidence contained risks for the activity and good resilience to them. Bank credit - adjusted for some factors having a temporary effect, related to structural changes in the banking sector - was upward during the period for both households and enterprises, with credit in the domestic currency showing a steady contribution.

The full Financial Stability Report will be published shortly on Bank of Albania's website

The Supervisory Council was also informed on other daily functional and operational activities of the Bank of Albania.
