Governor Sejko meets the Ambassador of the Republic of Greece in Tirana, H.E. Mrs. Eleni Sourani

The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko had an official meeting at the Bank of Albania with the Ambassador of the Republic of Greece in Tirana, H.E. Mrs. Eleni Sourani.

Governor Sejko informed the Ambassador on the financial developments in Albania, highlighting that the Albanian banking system is capitalised, liquid and financially sound. The Governor stated that the Bank of Albania will remain committed to fulfilling its mission for price stability and financial stability in Albania.

The Governor and the Ambassador also discussed the bilateral relationships in economic field, and pointed out that Greece is an important trading partner for Albania. The Greek businesses have established a tradition in Albania related to the banking sector.

Governor Sejko also informed the Ambassador of the Republic of Greece in Tirana about the role of the Albanian Banks with Greek capital in the Albanian financial system, and added that these banks have a sound financial, liquidity and capital situation.

Governor Sejko assured Ambassador Sourani that the Bank of Albania will provide its full support to the Albanian banking system, including banks with Greek capital, with the aim these banks return to the historic parameters related to the crediting to economy, in the near future.

The interlocutors discussed on the perspectives of further enhancing the economic cooperation between the two countries, mainly in the area of the financial system.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Greece in Tirana, H.E. Mrs. Eleni Sourani, stated that Greece went through a difficult period, but exceptions for the future show an improvement of the economic situation.

Ambassador Sourani also assessed the important role of Albanian banks with Greek capital, while further highlighting that Greece, for years has been the first foreign investor in Albania and a driving factor for the Albanian economy.

Greece has strongly supported the efforts of Albania to establish a sound environment for the business, able to attract further foreign investments and strengthen the economic growth. Greece supports Albania in its way to the European membership.

In this context, Ambassador H.E. Mrs. Eleni Sourani, commended the work of the Bank of Albania and its support for safeguarding and guaranteeing financial stability in Albania.
