The external sector of economy presented with a negative balance on
current account over 2006, mainly caused by a high trade deficit. Capital
inflows were sufficient to offset the current deficit, allowing as such an overall
positive balance amounting to EUR 207 million.
The overall balance of payments for the first quarter of 2007 resulted in a
surplus of EUR 14.5 million. Capital inflows financed about 92 per cent of
current deficit and led to the increase of the monetary authority reserve....
