The Bank of Albania is explicitly prohibited by law to help financially and sponsor anyone and in any form. More concretely, in the Law No. 8269, dated 23.12.1997, “On the Bank of Albania”, as amended, Article 4, says "... Except as otherwise specifically authorized by this law, the Bank of Albania shall not grant any financial assistance, whether in the form of a direct loan or grant ..."

Households, enterprises, non-profit organisations etc. may not open banking accounts at the Bank of Albania. This service is offered by the other banks of our banking system, also known as commercial banks. Only commercial banks and the Government may open accounts at the Bank of Albania.

Also, the Bank of Albania does not offer loans to household, enterprises, non-profit organisations etc. This service is offered to the public by the commercial banks.
