Publication date: 27.06.2017

The decisions taken over the weekend by the Bank of Italy and the Government of the Republic of Italy has led to a complete restructuring of the Veneto Banca' banking group. The majority of the operations of this group, including its subsidiaries in Albania and some other countries, were transferred to Intesa Sanpaolo, the largest banking group in Italy. This was confirmed also by a press release issued by Intesa Sanpaolo banking group on 26 June 2017.

For the Albanian banking sector, this means that Banka Veneto Sh.a.', previously fully owned by Veneto Banca' banking group, will now be owned by Intesa Sanpaolo' and its activity will become part of the new banking group. The shareholder's change will contribute to maintaining the good indicators of the bank and will improve its management. Like in other similar cases, the shareholder's change will not affect the overall activity for the depositors and other clients of the bank.

In addition to closely monitoring and supervising this process, the Bank of Albania will exercise the competencies set out in the law and the regulatory framework with regard to the change in a bank's shareholder.
