On the International Day of Family Remittances, the Bank of Albania publishes “Remittances: A support for development.” Over the years, the Bank of Albania has conducted and published various researches on remittances; but, today, for the first time, it publishes this document dedicated entirely to remittances, to highlight the role of remittances and their importance to the Albanian economy, which are always at the focus of the central bank.

This is a compilation of speeches and interviews of the Governor of the Bank of Albania in 2015. Through them, the public is informed on Bank of Albania detailed assessments and analyses, as well as the Governor's opinion on economic and financial developments in Albania. In addition, it provides a comprehensive overview of the Bank of Albania's role and policies, its contribution to safeguarding financial stability in Albania, and relevant challenges.

The medium-term development strategy of the Bank of Albania for 2016-18 sets out the institutional objectives over this three-year period and identifies the required measures and resources to achieve these objectives. This publication presents in a well-structured and clear manner the dynamics in the internal activity and external results, and enables the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of measures taken to achieve the objectives set forth in the strategy. The principal objective of the Bank of Albania is to achieve and maintain price stability, which is the best contribution of monetary policy for sustainable and long-term economic growth; (ii) issue and circulate the Albanian currency, ensuring the public confidence in the currency, by guaranteeing the quality of banknotes and coins, and providing secure and efficient currency supply to meet the needs of the economy; (iii) hold and manage official foreign reserves of the Republic of Albania as a guarantee for withstanding adverse shocks to the real sector of the economy and support financial stability.

This publication makes a clear display of the dynamics in internal activity and external results, and enables the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of measures taken to achieve the objectives set forth in the strategy. Bank of Albania’s orientation toward the European System of Central Banks remains the primary objective for this period. The work to achieve this major challenge will include the main functions of the central bank: monetary policy, banking system, payment infrastructure, banknotes and institution’s management.

The new medium-term plan “The future: pathways and challenges ahead” charts the Bank of Albania’s course for 2009 – 2011. This new development strategy of our institution is built on the considerable achievement of objectives stemming from the 2006 – 2008 strategic document. Moreover, it sets out an ambitious agenda for the next planning period. The document synthesizes a considerable work of all Bank of Albania’s units. It has embodied a great intellectual, scientific and visionary contribution. This document is built upon institutional inheritance and best practices of European central banks and other international institutions.
