Governor Sejko meets with the International Monetary Fund mission

Today, on 04 March 2015, the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr. Gent Sejko met with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, led by Mr. Nadeem Ilahi. This meeting took place in the framework of the regular visits by the IMF mission to Albania, as part of the periodic review of the three-year arrangement between the Government of Albania and the International Monetary Fund.

Governor Sejko informed the IMF representatives on the latest economic and financial developments in Albania. He focused, in particular, on addressing the main challenges facing the Albanian economy: macroeconomic policy framework and structural reforms necessary for promoting economic growth; identification of measures to boost lending and strengthening of financial stability. Governor Sejko underlined the commitment of the Bank of Albania to comply with its legal tasks, strengthen the banking supervision role; increase further the transparency of policies and communication; and cooperate with all the relevant national authorities and international partners to address issues related to stability and economic development.

On his side, Mr. Ilahi reiterated the crucial role of the Bank of Albania in safeguarding the economic and financial stability and shared the priority issues that will be in the focus of this periodic review of the arrangement. He also affirmed the full confidence in the professionalism of the Bank of Albania and highlighted the commitment to continue assisting the Bank of Albania in the area of institutional development.

The meeting was also attended by the IMF resident representative in Albania, Mr. Jens Reinke.
