Statement by the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania

The Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania in its meeting of 19 December 2014:

• In fulfilling the legal obligation to propose the Assembly of the Republic of Albania a member of the Supervisory Council;
• Being aware of the responsibility for a swift solution to the situation to fill the vacancies regarding the governance of the Bank of Albania and the Inspector General;
• Having the will to contribute towards solving the legal issue regarding the procedures for the selection and appointment of the Governor of the Bank of Albania; and
• Welcoming the spirit of consensus and cooperation established between the relevant constitutional institutions involved in the process for the appointment of the Governor of the Bank of Albania - the President, the Parliament and the Council of Ministers - as well as the three major parliamentary subjects, from both the ruling majority and the opposition, as is also confirmed from the meetings of the Council members with the respective heads of institutions
• Following the decision of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania on 18 December 2014, to release from duty Mr. Adrian Civici, as a Member of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania, following his resignation,

Had a hearing session with Mr. Gent Sejko, the candidate proposed by President of the Republic for the position of the Governor of the Bank of Albania.

Based on the curriculum vitae, educational background, professional experience and the vision of Mr. Sejko, all the members of the Supervisory Council, in their full institutional responsibility, deemed that the candidature of Mr. Sejko complies with all the legal criteria set out in the law on the Bank of Albania, for being a member of the highest decision-making and supervisory body of the institution.

The Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania, pursuant to Article 44, paragraph 2, item 'c' of the law 'On the Bank of Albania', in the decision No 79, dated 19.12.2014, proposed the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, the selection of Mr. Gent Sejko for the position of the member of this body.

The Supervisory Council is confident that, through this selection, it is contributing to the swift solution regarding the appointment of the new Governor of the Bank of Albania, as well as to the economic and financial stability in Albania.
