The Bank of Albania launches the 5000 lek banknote, issued in 2001

According to the Law "On the Bank of Albania" No.8269, dated 23.12.1997, the Supervisory Council approved of reprinting the 5000 lek banknote issued in 1996, in its decision N0.80, dated 04.10.2000. This banknote is already and will be in circulation with legal status.

The reprinted banknotes have the year 2001 printed in the backside.

The 2001 banknote issues were launched as follows: 200 lek issue and 1000 lek issue on April 8, 2002; 500 lek issue on August 1, 2002.

According to the afore-mentioned decision, the Bank of Albania announces that on September 1, 2004 it will launch the 5000 lek banknote, issued in 2001.

This new launch marks the complete series of banknotes issued in 2001. This new banknote has the same view and design as the 5000 lek banknote issued in 1996, with some minor changes in the hologram view.

The 5000 lek banknote issued in 1996 and 2001 has the same legal status and will be accepted in all public and private payments, of no restriction in its nominal value.
