Governor Sejko attends the International Conference organized by the Central Bank of Bosnia and Hercegovina

On 22 September 2017, the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr Gent Sejko attended the International Conference entitled '20 Years of stability' organised by the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the occasion of marking the 20th anniversary of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Conference was attended by highest level domestic and international officials, governors and other representatives of central banks from Europe and the region, as well as policy makers and experts from the European Union and international financial institutions.

The CBBH Governor Senad Softiæ welcomed the guests, and introduced the Conference agenda, by highlighting that the aim of this event is the sharing of thoughts and experiences with colleagues from different countries.

Governor Sejko was invited in one of the main panels dedicated to new challenges for central banks in the process of joining the European Union, together with governors and representatives for the regional central banks. The discussions in this panel focused on the new challenges that central banks in region are facing in the EU convergence process and the spillover effects from current developments in the euro area and the region on these countries.

In his speech, Governor Sejko informed the participants with the progress Albania has made with regard to the European integration process, highlighting some key moments of the convergence process and tackled the challenges relevant to Albania for the future.

Governor Sejko stressed that the political and economic future of the SEE region is strongly linked to the ongoing process of EU integration. Also, the Governor emphasised that a sound and efficient financial market is a necessary prerequisite for a high and resilient long-term growth, as well as a significant factor in the convergence process.

He added that the central banks have a very important role for advancing the convergence process, through maintaining macro-economic parameters and strengthening of financial stability, highlighting that the policymakers should continue to contribute to fostering regional cooperation.
