New 5 lek coins legal tender, issue of 2014 will enter into circulation 1 December 2016

Year of issue on the new coin changed to 2014

The Bank of Albania informs the public that, starting 1 December 2016, the new 5 lek coin, legal tender, issue of 2014, will enter into circulation.

The re-minting of the 5 lek coins, legal tender, is approved by the Decision No 16, dated 26.2.2014, of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania, pursuant to Law no. 8269, dated 23.12.1997 "On the Bank of Albania", as amended.

The new 5 lek coin, legal tender, issue of 2014, has the same composition, design, size and weight as the older '5 LEKE' coin, issued in 2011; however, the year of issue on the new coin is changed to '2014'.

Starting from 1 December 2016, the 5 lek coins, legal tender, issue of 2014 will be used as a mean of payment alongside the older coins of this denomination, already in circulation.
