Event on the 86th anniversary of the national banknote and coin

On 31 March 2012, on the occasion of the 86th anniversary of the first issue of the national currency, the Bank of Albania organised educational activities targeting children and young people of different age-groups.
 
The educational programmes developed by the Bank of Albania focus on the educational system, particularly on high-school students. This event, however, targeted also pupils of primary and secondary education.

In the framework of this year of jubilee, elements of the 100th anniversary of Albania's Declaration of Independence are intertwined with some of the educational materials provided to visitors.

The purpose of the activities at this event was to make young people aware of the history and values of our national currency, which has played an important role over these 86 years of its life. It features key moments in our history and personalities who have strongly contributed to the establishment and development of our country. Moreover, the coin and the banknote of a country are an integral part of its culture as they represent works of art.

Only through becoming aware of the importance of the national currency, the young people shall learn to handle with care the banknotes and coins they use every day, as well as be responsible with the money and appreciate it.

Students from high and secondary and primary schools across the country participated in the various educational activities organised in the framework of this event.

Written and audio-visual materials introduced them to the history and function of the currency as a means of payment and to the security features and significance of the banknotes.

The students were able to watch short films, participate in on-line games and attend many other interactive activities organised during this event.

In addition to the specific materials developed for this event, the visitors were also introduced to and informed on other educational activities and programmes and read various brochures published by the Bank of Albania.
