Publication date: 04.04.2014

In the framework of the Vienna Initiative II, on 24 March 2014, the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr. Ardian Fullani, participated in the working group for the Banking Union, in the capacity of the representative of Eastern and Southeast Europe countries. The working group met in London, UK.

Organised by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the meeting was attended by representatives of: the European Central Bank, European Banking Authority, EC's Internal Market and Services Directorate General, International Monetary Fund, supervisory authorities and central banks from CESEE countries.

Discussions focused on identifying steps and measures that need to be taken to enhance cooperation in the field of banking supervision between EU-based home authorities and host authorities in CESEE countries, and to ensure institutional representation of non-EU member countries vis-a-vis European authorities in this field. Better coordination would serve to integrate, at European-level decisionmaking, considerations for non-EU member countries that are affected by the policies of European Union authorities.

In this context, Governor Fullani raised a number of issues, which have been identified through the regional cooperation of non-European Union countries. He encouraged the groups of interest to contribute actively to the solution, taking advantage of the opportunities the Banking Union provides.
