Governor Sejko attends Governors Club of Central Asia, Black Sea Region and Balkan countries

On 30 October - 1 November 2016, the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr Gent Sejko, attended the 36th Meeting of the Central Bank Governors' Club of Central Asia, the Black Sea Region and Balkan Countries. The 36th meeting was hosted by the Bank of Israel and was presided by BoI Governor, Dr Karnit Flug. Central bank governors from 24 member countries of the Club participated in the event.

In the meeting, the discussions focus on the various challenges that central banks face in fulfilling their objective to maintain price stability and macroeconomic stability. Special attention was paid to the information security and the recent technology developments. The governors shared the experiences and measures taken by central banks with regard to safeguarding institutional data.

The meeting served also as a discussion platform to share ideas and experiences on the technology developments. In this regard, all the central banks affirmed their commitment in adopting contemporary measures related to digital security and defence from cybernetic attacks.

The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr Gent Sejko, presented an overview of the latest developments in the Albanian economy and the measures taken by the Bank of Albania to boost the economic activity. Governor Sejko highlighted that, through the accommodative monetary policy stance, the Bank of Albania has provided the necessary contribution to supporting sustainable economic growth and guaranteeing macroeconomic stability.

In addition, Governor Sejko presented the latest developments, at the institutional level, notably an operational risk management plan, and at the national level, the commitments of the Bank of Albania in the framework of the strategies in the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing, cybernetic threats. He focused in the further improvements of the legislation that aims at adopting the European directives in this filed and the achievement of the contemporary standards.

About the Club

The Central Bank Governors' Club of Central Asia, the Black Sea Region and Balkan Countries was established in 1998, upon the initiative of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. Its members include: Albania (since 1998), Greece, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Russian Federation, Ukraine, Israel, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, China, Czech Republic, Poland, Croatia and Slovenia. The purpose of the Governors' Club is to strengthen the ties among central banks in the region and foster regional cooperation, through the exchange of best experiences and round tables organised at governor or expert level on current issues of concern.
