Launching the Global Money Week 2016

On 14 March 2016, the Global Money Week (GMW) 2016 was launched. This year, the GMW activities will be organised during the week of 14 20 March 2016.
In the framework of the GMW, the Bank of Albania, in cooperation with the Albanian Association of Banks, the Ministry of Education and Sports, and the Ministry of Social Welfare and Youth will organise educational and awareness-raising activities for children and youth, such as: workshops, lectures, contests in schools and on TV, visits at the Museum of the Bank of Albania, visits at commercial banks, and open classes.
The launching ceremony of the GMW 2016 was attended by the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr Gent Sejko, the Minister of Education and Sports, Ms Lindita Nikolla, the Minister of Social Welfare and Youth, Mr Blendi Klosi, and the Vice Chair of the Albanian Association of Banks, Mr Gazmend Kadriu.
In his address, Governor Sejko highlighted the importance of financial and economic education for the new generation, which helps children and youth to become aware of their financial rights, facilitates the access to financial services and develops the skills in this field. In addition, the Governor underlined the commitment of the Bank of Albania, through the implementation of educational programmes and compilation of educational textbooks for elementary and high school students. The Bank of Albania has enhanced its educational role, with the opening of the Bank of Albania Museum. The young visitors, in addition to numismatic and historical information, may learn about issues related to finance and its management.
The Minister of Social Welfare and Youth Mr Blendi Klosi said in his address that the establishment of a saving culture in the Albanian society will improve the social welfare and contribute to improving the situation of those in need. The GMW is a money-awareness celebration for children and youth worldwide and takes place annually, during the second week of March. This year, more than seven million children and youth are expected to participate in the GMW 2016 activities organised by central banks, state agencies and financial institutions across over 100 countries. |
