On the visit of the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr. Ardian Fullani, in London

On 24.01.2011, the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr. Ardian Fullani, paid a visit in London, upon an invitation from the University of Oxford to deliver a lecture on 'Regional Cooperation in South-Eastern Europe after the global crisis' at the Oxford's European Studies Centre. The lecturing panel was chaired by Mr. Max Watson (Visiting Fellow, St Antony's College) and featured Mr. Peter Sanfey, Office of the Chief-Economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and Mr. Othon Anastasakis, Director of South East European Studies at the University of Oxford.

 In his lecture, Governor Fullani presented his views on recent tendencies of economic and financial developments in Albania and countries of the region. He also expressed the indispensability to intensify currently undertaken reforms for a steady growth in this region in the upcoming years.

This event is in the context of activities that the Bank of Albania has organised in the last two years on economic growth. It was materialized in the framework of the cooperation agreement signed in September 2010 between the Bank of Albania and University of Oxford.

The scope of this cooperation is to conduct scientific research for promoting and expanding acquisition on economic policies and challenges facing Albania and the region; assessing political opportunities to promote economic stability in the region; and EU integration.

During his visit in London, the Governor of the Bank of Albania met with the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, Mr. Charles Bean. The focus of their discussion was on the latest macroeconomic developments in Albania and measures taken by the Bank of Albania to safeguard the country's macroeconomic stability. They also discussed on central banks contribution the study of various economic phenomena. In the end, it was agreed on Bank of Albania's membership in the International Journal of Central Banking Association.

The International Journal of Central Banking is an initiative of the central banking community.

Published quarterly, the journal features issues on central bank, with a special emphasis on research relating to monetary and financial stability.
