The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr Gent Sejko delivers a lecture at South East European Studies at Oxford

On 12 June 2017, Gent Sejko, Governor of the Bank of Albania, invited by the University of Oxford delivered a lecture for a broad audience on 'Role of Central Bank as Guardian of Price and Financial Stability'

This lecture was organised in the framework of the long standing cooperation between the Bank of Albania and the South East European Studies at Oxford.

The lecture was attended by the academic body of the University, international experts in economy, and Masters and PHD students.

At the beginning of his lecture, the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr Gent Sejko presented an overview of macroeconomic developments, focusing on most recent developments in the euro area and the region and an analysis of the subsequent impact on the Albanian economy.

In this regard, the Governor made a summary of challenges facing the two main central bank policies: the monetary policy and the macroprudential policy.

He continued emphasising that, regardless of these developments, the Bank of Albania has been ready to provide all the necessary contribution to support sustainable economic growth.

Governor Sejko said that amid an unfavourable global environment, the Bank of Albania has been implementing an accommodative monetary policy stance, and has paid due attention to the financial sector reform and banking supervision.

Moreover, the Governor said that the accommodative monetary policy stance of the Bank of Albania, the improved financing conditions and the improvement of private agents confidence are considered as the main factors underpinning the recovery and gradual return of the economy to equilibrium.

Governor Sejko emphasised that the central bank policies require maximal internal and external coordination in order to achieve optimum effects.

At the end of the lecture, the Governor answered to the questions of the audience about economic and financial developments in Albania and the region.

During his visit, Governor Sejko met also with Albanian students and professors at the University of Oxford.
