Artefacts and alternative forms of money
The Museum exhibits several unique objects and artefacts that reflect the evolution of money over the centuries, from its earliest to its present-day form. Among them, we may mention some axes from the Hoard of Torovica from the Xth Cent. B.C., evidencing the pre-monetary exchange in the historic territories of our country, as well as several archaeological objects that illustrate the periods presented.
The Museum of the Bank of Albania has a rich collection of Albanian banknotes issued and used in Albania. This collection includes the first regional Albanian banknotes, the banknotes issued by the National Bank of Albania, the State Bank of Albania and the Bank of Albania, tests and specimen.
The Museum of the Bank of Albania has a rich collection of coins from various periods minted in the historic territories of Albania, as well as those that have circulated in these territories, from antiquity to the present day. The exhibition displays also the commemorative coins, issued by the central bank to commemorate events or people of the Albanian history and identity.
The ethnographic collection of the Bank of Albania, part of which is presented in the temporary exposition of the Museum, consists of silver objects from our ethnography, personal jewellery and religious objects. The diversity in this collection reveals the economic and cultural development stages of various social groups in Albania, as well as the lifestyle of the Albanian people during the period from mid XVIIIth century to the beginning of the XXth century.
