Centennial Conference of the Bank of Albania
“A Century of Central Banking: From Institutional Foundation to Regional Anchor”

The Centennial Conference of the Bank of Albania marked a historic milestone for both the institution and the nation’s financial system, bringing together in Tirana an exceptional assembly of high-level representatives from central banks, international organisations, and the academic community. Organised on the occasion of the centennial jubilee of the founding of the Albanian central bank (1925–2025), the conference reflected on the Bank’s century-long journey and its contribution to monetary and financial stability. At the same time, it offered a forward-looking perspective on the challenges and opportunities posed by an increasingly dynamic and globalised economy.

The Conference intertwined substantive professional discussions with moments of historical and symbolic significance, including the unveiling of the Centennial Commemorative Coin, video messages from the heads of international institutions—among them Christine Lagarde and Kristalina Georgieva—and exhibitions showcasing the Bank’s monetary and documentary heritage. Throughout a series of thematic panels, distinguished speakers explored developments in monetary policy, financial stability, innovation in payment systems, and the role of central bank in the modern economy.

The conference was conceived as both a moment of reflection on the past and a platform of dialogue about the future, highlighting the institutional independence, the digital transformation, and the alignment with European standards. In this spirit, the Bank of Albania reaffirmed its fundamental role in fostering confidence and supporting sustainable economic development. At the same time, it articulated the vision guiding the Bank of Albania’s activity into its second centennial.
